Took a fun ride to Vernon yesterday and had Gene the Ripper install the new BT45's on the ELR. He has very reasonable rates and does great work.  Smiley

Nothing on my bike today, but did some research on changing spark plug leads on my wife's 850.  Why did Suzuki have to glue them into the coils?  Angry

Put a new fender on the Norton tonight thanks to Old Britts having one lying around.   Funny how when you remove a fender and look at the bike it sends your mind in another direction fenderless.
Stuck with the plan and here is a couple pics  with fender on.

Last fall I posted some pics of the 73 RD250 project I was starting on.  Fast forward to today with lots of time spent on this project.
There isn't a single nut or bolt thus far I haven't cleaned or replaced.  The motor was completely torn apart with a new to me used crank replacing the solidly rusted one that came out of it.  Standard sized barrels were sourced and were rebored to first oversize with matching pistons.  Transmission and clutch pack looked in good shape.
Frame and all components were painted and/or cleaned.  Amazing what a wire wheel and polisher can do.

Working on the front end at this point in time.  Something isn't looking quite right.  Although the front end components aren't quite buttoned up, something is not aligning like I want it to.
Adjusting a twin leading front drum brake is a first for me and is proving to be more complicated than what it should be.  Pointers on this will gladly be accepted.
I'm used to front discs up front and their corresponding braking power.  This front drum...at least so far...seems a little feeble to me.
A couple of pictures to update...

Looking good.

That's the cleanest garage I've ever seen.  Grin

Too funny.  I could never (nor would I want to) have a garage looking like that.  I have a set up in my basement that works very well for me.  The picture was taken in the adjacent room to this work space I use.  Having a house with a walkout basement suits my needs perfectly.
The garage on the other hand is my heavy duty workshop.  Lots of heavy chit has gone on in there.....even my cursing and swearing when things don't go my way are heavy duty! Grin
...and by design .....the garage is disorganized. Wink

It's raining in Squish today so I took the valve cover off the Z1 and checked shims.  Only one was within spec.  The rest were all tight, as I suspected.  So the morning was spent changing shims.  Then I used a little elbow grease to clean up the valve cover before putting it back on.

Call me Claudio - no really call me Bear - and I may be able to help with the front brake adjustment.

Bear - no real pun intended- in mind that the TLS brake will never feel as effective as a 4 puck, twin disc system. The feeling is more slowing than stopping.

Also it will take 200 - 500 km after adjustment for the shoes to bed in to be as effective as possible.

But I think I can get you as good as it gets.

Bike looks wonderful Claudio,  your hard work is paying off now.   Very good job and I understand how hard you have been working on that machine.

Thanks for the RD250 comments!  Yes, there has been considerable elbow grease allocated to this project.
Next on the list is setting points and timing, and give it a chance to start up.  It'll have lots of oil in the crankcase to burn, so
once again, I will be popular with the neighbors.  Evil
Once the above is completed, I will focus on the tin/paint.

Bear, thanks for the offer for direction on setting up the front twin leading shoe drum.  I will connect with you a little later on it.
I do believe I have it set up just about right.  I suddenly have a much better understanding why disc brakes took over in such
a decisive way. Shocked Shocked

Stripped, painted and polished a set of Lester mags that will eventually find their way onto one of the Z1's...

Went to the Italian car show in North Van today, took my dad with me.

Pretty sad turnout, I guess a lot of those cars must be made of sugar.

I drove out there in a 1965 Catalina drag car with no heater, radio or windshield wipers and I made it just fine.  Evil

I did manage to get it a little sideways in front of Lonsdale though.  Grin
