Finished off adjusting the valves on the Concours today. Actually I finished yesterday, took me the better part of the day today just to get that f*&$^#^^& cam cover gasket and cam cover back on. I recall having just as much fun the first time I adjusted the valves. Lining up the rubber gasket to fit in the cam cover groove and simultaneously sealing the head surface quickly turned into an adventure. Kawasaki couldn't cram more chit into that area of the bike even if they wanted to.
I thought the GS750 was bad, but this one is just hellish!
I never thought I could swear so fluently.....practiced all 4 languages today.
I thought it was easy to set mine
Different years, slightly different crap crammed in that area.....
The '86 was not that difficult when I rechecked Henrys work......still all in spec, by the way.

Mine were starting to tighten up. I could tell at the end of this riding season that the motor wasn't what it could be at the high end of the rev scale.
The valves are now adjusted back to where I prefer them. On the loose end of spec range.
What proved to be tricky was getting the rubber gasket to stay within the cam cover groove - especially on the front edge of the cover where the cover 'zigs and zags'. At that front edge, the gasket has a tendency of move around slightly and if not seated accurately will get pinched. That front edge also happens to be well hidden by the radiator, rad and oil cooler frame, rad flap, frame tubes etc. Coils and air circulation piping were pulled and out of the way.

For my resto. Original paint. Removed from the bike and stored when the bike was new.

Working on RH control today. Should be finished tomorrow. Meanwhile, a set of these showed up at my door tonight.

It's been a year now since I decided to tighten up the loose nut holding the bars.
A little core and upper body strength never hurts when throwing it into a corner or using the abs to take the strain off the wrist or back.
A gym membership is way cheaper than carbon fibre too, though both help make the bike lighter.

I used to run pretty seriously until I had to give it up for my arthritic hip. All of my running was outdoors...rain or shine, warm or cold. When I gave up running I joined a local gym and I usually go there 4 times a week but I've gained about 50 lbs. It's all on the eliptical now, other than stretches for my hip. The surgeon told me after my hip replacement I can run again. I am really looking forward to it.

Seen an oil drop under the 400 today. Traced the leak to the oil pump seal.
The seal's falling apart.. 62.4*2.5 according to Honda parts fiche. At least it's a cheap fix!

Well I was finally able to do something constructive out in the shed. I bought a relatively new Trail Tech Vapor online recently and was able to hard wire it up to the DRZ400. Super awesome little unit, came with nice Motodash plate as well. Can't wait to rip down the road and see a tach again...or maybe not, the bike came with 13/47 gearing, you were in 5th gear by 40km/hr. I've changed the gearing to 14/44 since then so that should be 'a little' more acceptable without loosing any power.

The Motodash comes with some neat tech as you can see and it has a RAM mount which will be perfect for my cell phone that I use for GPS while out and about in the dirt. The Trail Tech gauge has all kinds of goodies on it, ambient temperature, engine temp with warnings, tachometer with shifting lights, ride times, stop watch, engine run hours, total bike KMs and more, really neat unit. Can't wait for my ROX risers to show up so I can bolt everything together.

A few other things I need to order are Emperor radiator guards (made right here in Chilliwack don't you know) and a Yellow IMS tank.

Took the yellow Duc for a ride today.
She was kinda bitchy and didn't want to start. Some wiggling of the electrical connections solved the problems.
