Could you have possibly had a very small air leak somewhere on the carbs ? I've chased that one a few times.
That's interesting and worth pursuing. I know there were no leaks on the boots or on the intake clamps. They were all siliconed and tested. There might be an internal air leak though. I'm think it's #1 or #2 carb. I have spares and will eventually change them out.
Shawn, that's what I did. I increased the pilots 4 times. I left the mains alone because the bike had strong accel above 4,000 rpm.
Some good points coming out here.

Overhauled the seizing brake system on my 400F. Rebuilt master and caliper with a stainless line and Dot 5. No more spongy brake lever or paint damage.

Is that a Honda 400/4? Not a common bike. I've seen a few and admired them.
Synched the carbs and set the fuel air screws this morning, then a short ride to Brittannia and back. I was planning to go farther but the traffic was too thick heading South and even thicker heading North. Anyway, the bike idles well and hums at highway speed but has a bit of hesitation when accelerating gently from a full stop. Maybe one size up on the pilot jets would help but I'm not going to pull the carbs until this winter unless I have other issues.

Yep. Next up is new sprockets, chain and getting wheels trued. A carb sync is also due.

Those are speed holes. Less weight = faster.

With "Craiglist Pistons" in it even those Kawasaki chasers in their GS bikes will have a tough time catching your chubby little sled Frank unless of course they have Amazon or Ebay pistons, then you are in trouble.

They are TRW or Forgedtrue 10.5 to 1 pistons.. Now I can run my other goodies.. Do you think 310 degrees duration on the cam will do the trick ?

I would try for 360 duration Frank then you will not have to change the picture of the bike.

Installed the new Amal on the Triumph. That dang choke slide and spring are so darn finicky to get installed, as one must also attach throttle cable and get needle down past the flippin' spring, that I de-installed that part, knowing that the tickler will richen the mixture enough for light-up.
Hooked up the auxiliary tank, half a dozen kicks, and a fart.....next kick, we have noise......sounds like a Triumph, was afraid it would sound like every other twin.
Now to put everything back on and take it up the street.....should be fun, controls are reversed to what I am wired onto, should get a few brake-shifts.
