What did you do to your motorcyle today?

Took the seat off my cb77,hooked up the battery charger,got bored,took it off again,and wen't back in my house.I don'tlike to leave chargers on in my shop because I've seen batteries melt down and catch fire,something I always worry about.

   ..for the last decade or so when I park my bike ( or my 71 Volkswagen Wesfalia called "the Haggis" ), I attach ( with alligator clips on the motorcycle and a cigarette lighter plug on the Haggis ) a small solar panel which kinda "trickle" charges all winter.  In the Haggis it just sits on the dash and for my old mule I got it hangin where the sun gets at it.

   Works very well at maintaining the battery through the months that it aint active, an I'm thinkin that it stretches out a couple more years of battery life too.

  ..at least on the Bike it has.

  You can find them at Canadian tire for around 20 bucks Paul. ..I know that cause I busted one while camping once and had to fetch a new one.

   ...and if you have a plug for a heated vest, well that makes for a good spot to plug in a panel too.

Okay you guys,I have a phobia about batteries,fire and lawn gnomes,among others.At the moment,if I bought battery tenders for all the bikes in my shop it would look octopus like in there and would cost me about $150.00 in tenders.The guy I get my batteries from sells them to me at around $25.00 each and I usually buy two a year.(Made in China)Thats a savings of $100.00 right there which pays for three collector plates for 2 months.It's all economics fella"s.
Hey cuzzin,whats a plug in for a heated vest?My bikes are mostly sixties or early seventies modlels  and they barely thought of putting in a hole for a key back then or they put them in the wrong place.My 68 CB77 has the key on the side panel which is sure to be broken off or bent over if you carry a passanger.And,a kickstarter that goes forward when you kick it so you can leave part of your ankle skin on the brake pedal which is hard to access when your riding cause its burried under the kickstarter.I envy you for having a plug in and a heated vest damn it.Why wasn't I born priviledged?I think I need my meds now.......

   The vest plug is just a two pole trailer plug, one shielded the other not with a couple of wires ( the hot ones got a fuse ) and you attach them to your battery and "hang" the plug in some accessible spot.

   ...well, that's what I did on my old Beemer..

i take all the batteries out and put them on a bench near an outlet and hook up one tender to #1. one week later i put it on battery #2 and so on till spring. it sure is nice to not have to buy as many batteries. good luck, ken.

Yesterday took my Z1 cases and cylinders along with the donor engine down to Burnaby Kawasaki.  I'm getting them to do the transplant.  Should be done in a week or so.

Today I plasti-gauged the Z1 cam bearings (all good).  Then I installed new fuel tees and bench synched the carbs.

Send them on the bus Henry or get them to us for the swap meet in  Tsawwassen unless you need them sooner,Boris is bringing me a couple parts when he comes down.It's worth it to get them done

They where glass beaded back in 02 but your process looks far better but its going back together by the end off next week.

Never liked things sitting appart too long especially at my age ,might forget where all the pieces are

Pulled the rear portion of the exhaust system and rear wheel off the Concours.  Getting ready to replace rear tire, rear brake pads and lube up the drive gears in the rear hub drive.

Pulled my 30 year old tires off my rims today and they where hard to get off, and very stiff

Glass beaded the rust on the inside of my rims and wonder what a guy can spray on to stop it from rusting again.

You can get a product called "Miracle Paint" from Bill Hirsch (Old Car Centre and Industrial Plastics carry the product, you can also get it online) It's a paint-over-rust type coating but it's not thick like POR15.

We use it at work because it's water-thin and will flow into any pits, cracks and crevices.

It dries hard as a rock and we've never seen rust come back with it.
