Amazing what a bit of paint, and some shiny bits can do to a bike.  Case in Point.  Last Spring, local Kawasaki dealer brought in the retro 800.  FUGLY in flat paint and virtually no shiny bits.  It sat a long time until he flogged it off on another dealer who wanted a few bikes the local guy had.  Take the dog and you can have the rest.  DEAL.  Recently the local guy brought in another 800 Retro.  This one is BEAUTIFUL with a lovely red paint job, and enough shiny bits to make it very desirable.  Hell, if that bike had tubeless tires, I'd be very tempted to sell a few items and get one for myself.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but UGLY is right down to the bone. Just my humble opinion of course.

Throwing value aside for a moment. .
 Given a choice between a bevel 750 or 900 SS.. I would take the bevel... they appeal to me and the others dont...... plus the fact that I may not even be capable of riding the bevel  near its limits..
 That said I do not know how good it would be to say travel on ..  but I would rather look at it , than the other. .
Probably my all time favorite bike ever is the 1912 or 1913 Cyclone racer.. and very fond of the XR 750 as well..
 I call the first one, the grandfather of the bevel drive  V twins... came out around 60 years before the Ducati... I do not even hold a hope of ever owning one.... luckily though I got to see one, maybe touched it even , at Bonneville  one year. Spent a long time absorbing the details.. Jeff Decker brought it..
 I doubt anyone here will ever have one, but one never knows ..

The best part about the 916 is it also delivers. Ride one at  an 8/10 pace down a twisty back road and it’s “bliss”! Even after 25 years! Ya gotta love Italian bikes. I also really like the Katana and would love to have one. To the me the 1967- 70 Triumph Bonnevilles is also near perfect.

  Indeed the 916 delivered on the WSB grid huge. Of course it had all time street fighter Carl Fogarty riding it beyond its capabilities, and it had 166cc engine size advantage over the 4 cylinder bikes it ran against, but it delivered in subtle ways, specifically in rear tires preservation in giving the tire an 80 degree ‘break’ along its 720degree complete engine run.


  1) recognized majority confirmed great visual presence.
  2) race pedigree
  3) production relative rarity

  The 916 checks all the correct boxes to be legend.

  I own 3 ADV/DS bikes. I have authority to determine that all ADV’s and dual sports fell out of the ugliest trees in the neighbourhood, without exception.

  The Katana series was a styling exercise as only Suzuki bravely could implement. The designer of the RE5 on a rare weekend not using LSD, but trying out crack.

 And nobody has gone since.....
 They really stuck out in their time. . Unfortunately most bikes (not all) only get a short time...as change is rapid and often..

Interesting discussion but I wasn't convinced.  In fact, I think he's wrong on all counts.  Right turns aren't more dangerous than lefts.  The turn doesn't cause the accident.  The turner does.

Not sure about right being more dangerous, I corner better on a dirt bike going right.

 Statistics and studies are interesting though. How is dangerous defined in the study ? More people injured or dying ? Maybe the study should define crashing is more dangerous on the right than the left.
This I would agree to.

 If I lowside or highside in a corner going left I end up in a ditch, going right I could possibly be hit by a 100kmh vehicle going the opposite direction. I would pick the ditch every time.

Intersection cornering and all bets are off.

  I think he's correct on all counts, in this video, especially right turns. Although he surprisingly does not point out the true reason for motorcycle right hand turn issues, to be exact, gravel. the phenomena where lazy/stupid/low IQ 4 wheeled vehicle operators oversteer into the shoulder, where they bring gravel/dirt onto the motorcycle riding line. Unaware or stupid motorcycle riders ride in unprepared for lack of traction, and their riding line is extended left.
