Title: American shipping address
Post by: Galactica on October 05, 2023, 12:23:57 PM
I know a number of us occasionally have packages delivered just across the line in Sumas, Blaine, and Point Roberts.  Years ago I used to have packages delivered to Package Express in Sumas.  Now, that seems a bit far for me, given how bad traffic has become out that way.

If not Sumas, where do you guys have packages shipped to?  Any issues?  Service levels?  Cost?

I’m considering ordering an exhaust for my CB750 from Delkevic.

The problem is that they only ship via UPS.  My experience in the past with UPS packages from the US is not good.  Even with low dollar value packages, UPS holds them hostage for obscene brokerage and processing fees.  Do they still do this?

My option, I think, is to have it shipped to Blaine maybe, and pick it up there in person.

So, what delivery service do you guys use?

Cheers,
Ross

Package Express in Sumas has been my loyal mail box in the US for 20+ years. But commuting to ‘the pit’ (Abbotsford) is now done/finished, I’ve been thinking of setting up a new mail service closer. Near the Pacific truck crossing would be my best move I think.

It will be short term however, as the move to Oliver seems to be setting up, so mailbox in Omak will be the best set up.

Chris

I don’t think I’ll be ordering enough to warrant a yearly fee.  At Package Express, it’s simply a fee per package delivered to an assigned number.  That’s more along the lines I was thinking.

I was just looking at the various mailbox places in Blaine.  They all had an annual fee plus fee per package.  Package Express in Sumas still has no annual fee and very competitive per package rates.  I think I might just stick with Package Express.  I still have an account there.

And here’s a thing.  I still have to drive to either Sumas or Blaine.  Sumas is 120km round trip, Blaine is 80km round trip.  It will cost roughly $6-$8 CDN more in fuel for me, depending on if I take my car or truck, to drive to Sumas vs Blaine.  So if I get one package per year, I’m better off going to Sumas.  Two packages per year, I’d break even paying the annual fee at Blaine.  I know it’s not much, but when your only income is CPP, every dollar counts.

The Shell station in Pt Roberts.  Up to 50lbs: $1.49 - if you fill up with at least 41 litres (otherwise $3.50 per package).

Ross, I have an address in Lynden, just let me know if you want to use the service.

Parcel is about $3.50 CAD to pickup.

It's at The Mailbox 1770 Front Street, a block away from the gas station that sells ethanol free gas. Pacific Pride.

I’ll also add that, Lynden and points east, gasoline is always 10-15 cents a gallon cheaper that the northern part of the Interstate 5 corridor, from the border to Ferndale, where fuel gets cheap.

A yearly fee, plus a package fee????  Yeah, Package Express is the rockstar as far as economical fees rates.
Plus El Nopal Mexican restaurant is the absolute best!!

I’m signing up for the Shell station package service in Point Roberts.  It’s the easiest, fastest, and cheapest, just for me to get there.  35minutes and 38km one way.  There’s a discount on the package fee if you get 41lt or more of fuel.

There are one or two shipping acceptors in Oroville.

You'll also find the border lineups are short, or non-existent if you have Nexus, compared to other options.

The Mailbox in Lynden is great.

The guys that run the place are a constant source of entertainment as well.

Point Roberts seems most appealing.  It’s easiest, closest, cheapest.  I have my # already.
