So, I haven’t any classic bikes in my garage anymore.  I still love ‘em, just don’t have one.  I used the $ from the sale of my Zs to purchase a modern motorcycle.  And I will say, even though it doesn’t have the soul or character of my Zs, it is a much better bike.

Anyway, here’s my question for those of you who have a modern bike.  What insurance coverage do you carry once the bike is a year or two old?  For the past year, I opted for full coverage.  Now that it’s a year old, and I’ve just received my renewal notice, I’m reevaluating whether or not to purchase optional coverage.  Thoughts please.

I run the same optional packages that i run on my collector bikes. $3 million liability, zero collision, zero comprehensive. If i ride on an extended tour in the USA, I add collision and comp, to offset higher % of uninsured drivers down there.

That’s what I did in the past.  Liability only.  Load up optional for a trip to the US, then cancel upon return.

On the Goldwing I have $5 million liability and $300 deductible on collisioin/comp.  I only insure for the months I plan to ride.

My collector bikes are insured year round with a multi plate.

I reckon I’ll get six months coverage.  That takes me into early December.

Something l learned while insuring the car recently is that the private insurers now have monthly payments and will put them on the same day as the ICBC payment.  Many people stayed with ICBC for both coverages as preferred a monthly plan. I figure I saved about 100 bucks per month doing it this way.
