I finally got the rdz back together.

That is simply lovely Mark!  Well done for sure.
Bet you have enough braking force up front on that featherweight to yank your eyeballs right out of your head.  Gotta love that!

Yes, the FRZ600 front end and the Nissan calipers are a great upgrade. Two fingers is tons.

Working on carbs on my blue Z1B.  There is a weep somewhere that is dropping down onto the starter cover.  I think it's #2 carb.  Or possibly the fuel T.  I used my new method of setting the carb fuel level.

Looks like an Isla single malt, peaty edge, smooth finish.

No ice!

This method is far superior time wise and accuracy wise to using a tube from the bowl drain.  It also allows one to see if the float valve is leaking.

Ice.

And single malt do not go in the same sentence.

Bill, do those carbs have a pilot screw or an air screw.  If pilot screw, they can weep past the o-ring.  Or it could be weeping between the overflow tube and the float bowl itself as it is just a friction fit.

Sorry about suggesting ice!  I guess you can tell I'm not a scotch drinker.

Ross, these are VM28SC carbs, fitted to late '74 and all of '75 bikes.  They have the pilot fuel/air screw on the side.

I've had them hooked up for a couple of days now (out of the bike) to see if anything is leaking.  So far so good.

The bike is the one with the close ratio tranny and I'm getting ready to pull it and install a standard tranny.   Can't stand the vibrating mirrors on the highway.

Ah yes.  Wasn’t at all paying attention.  I really only glanced at your post.  For some reason my brain said you were working on your LTD.  The pic plainly shows Z1 carbs with air screw.  The carbs on my 77 kz1000 had pilot screws.  And the carbs on my 79 LTD are from a 78 LTD which also have pilot screws.

As for the scotch, some of them (even some single malts) need ice or a good splash of water.  Others not.  Even really good ones can sometimes use a tiny dribble of water.  And some blends are actually very good.  I’ve had some single malts that taste like turpentine, our local Central City is one.

Sounds like we need a scotch appreciation seminar.....Ross?

Oh, and sorry for poking into your very informative, and valuable, Z carb tutorial, Bill.

I recommend Central City Lohin McKinnon single malt with lots of ice and just about any pop you have on hand.  Then maybe pour it down the drain.

I have a set of VM26SS (1976) carbs on my LTD.  In my opinion they are the best carbs KHI used on the 900/1000 series engines.  The bike starts and runs fantastic.  I also have the original VM28SS pumpers for the LTD...sitting on my parts shelf.

Back to scotch for a sec....I'm 100% into scotch brand tape if that's worth anything.

Lagavulin Cask Strength with a splash of water to open it up. Lagavulin 16 is usually my go-to,  That said, I have a bottle of the 8 here which is surprisingly good as well.

Caol Isla comes in a strong second.

Either of those with a Bolivar No.2 or Punch Grand Cru.
