Needed a break from working on bikes today...can't afford an Adventure bike  Wink so had to ride the predecessor to the dualsports of today...hard to beat an old Honda

Kewl bike!! Oh, and consider this as an Adventure bike! I recently attempted to ride the West Harrison FSR on my 1200GS with street tires. Made it as far as "the shale hill" where things stopped quickly. At that point I wish I had my XR650L  as it would have been 'easy cheezy' on that thing. Rode back home with my tail between my legs.
I've had lots of XL Hondas over the years, love my XR650R for serious off road abuse  Grin

Thanks! Put the bike on the scales on the Pat Bay and she weighs in at 220kgs fully fueled. That's 485lbs in real numbers. Not too bad but surprisingly 10kgs heavier than my GS1100 in its current form.

Looks like a pile of crumpled plastic to me Dave.

Any pictures of the actual bike inside that mess of poly styrene to share?

My apologies Dave,

My voice of reason ( June ) just told me if I have nothing good to say then keep it to myself.

Please disregard my previous post as I am now keeping it to myself.

John and of course June

Henry and I were talking one day about all of the opportunities in our area for riding beyond where the pavement ends... So, rather than just talk about it, we promptly went out and picked up a couple dual purpose style bikes. He found a really nice 2009 Kawasaki Versys decked out with some great add-ons for the off pavement stuff. I found a nice little KLR650 that ticked the boxes for me. Cool

Today we decided to take them out for an inaugural run to see how they performed. We went up to Westwold from Falkland and turned off the highway to head up towards Pinaus Lake. There is a Forestry campground up there and we wanted to check it out for future visits. On the way we thought it might be a good idea to head up to a local summit that has some communication towers, it looked like there should be awesome views from there. However, because of recent rainfalls the incredibly lightly travelled road had turned into some kind of horrible gumbo that made motorcycle travel treacherous!

We decided to turn around so I hopped off my KLR to give Henry a hand, after two steps my boots weighed about 8 pounds each, it was like walking Herman Munster style! We pushed Henry's Versys around until it was headed in the right direction.

The snot was slimy and it was 'snot' fun to ride in! Shocked

My swingarm seemed to like it though.

It was fun to weave and slither our way back to hard pack and continue on our way. Despite the sliminess we encountered it was a fun way to begin another way to enjoy life on two wheels. Smiley
