It really helps in rock music if you have pzzazz, along with a little talent.  This group had plenty of both.

The Everly Bros., Simon & Garfunkel, the Carpenters, Beachboys. There are many harmonies that just sound right. So who would have ever put a rocker from Led Zeppelin with a bluegrass violinist with Union Station together?Huh?

Yep!  They've been a thing for a while now.  I think they have an album together.

Happy Birthday to keyboard player Rick Wright.

Joe Satriani, IMO, the greatest of all rock and roll lead guitarists. A big claim yes. His skills highly overachieve his hit list. This one is live, 30 yrs ago on the David Letterman Show.

When I hear Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon or Money, Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven or Rock and Roll, I also think of Deep Purple and Smoke on the Water:
or just sitting in a car which was filled with smoke?Huh?Huh?Huh???

I bought the Dark Side of the Moon album and spent many smoky nights listening to it.

Here's another song from those smokey nights.  The intro brings shivers to my backbone.

This guy was a very influential singer and band leader for decades.  You probably heard his songs as a very young street ape.

Got to love this line...."Though in life I used to hug her, now she's dead I draw the line"

Listening to Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin reminded me of this short??? song from the late 60's.  It has a beat, organ, and a great drum solo.  Lyrics were minimal.  The visuals were probably helpful after "drinking the Kool-Aid" at a Grateful Dead Concert.  (best to listen to drum solo with surround sound stereo)

That song was an anthem for us teenagers!

Gary Lewis (& the Playboys) has a birthday today but I'm not going to play This Diamond Ring, or anything by him.

Instead, this is another drummer, but one who played for a really good band.

Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and Jon Bonham in 1968 formed Led Zeppelin.  Playing for Change has done a cover featuring 76 year old John Paul Jones:  When the Levee Breaks

This was a hit back in the 60's.  I remember seeing him perform on Ed Sullivan.

Here he is having a heart attack.  Wait til the end of the video.

This well known song was played at Woodstock.  Amazing how young they all looked.
