One more birthday boy this morning before I head to Chilliwack.  Unfortunately another singer who is gone, by someone else's hand.  This is perhaps the greatest song he ever sang.

I made it to Chilliwack and back without any snowfall, although there were a few rain drops at the Coq summit, and a bit of snow on the hills.  The 650 engine is all clean now.

Here is a special song made especially for Thanksgiving.

I've said several times that I like songs where the emotion flows from the singer to the audience.  This is one of those songs, maybe the most emotional one that I've heard.  You have to be pretty heartless not to feel the tears welling in your throat when you hear the pain in his voice.

The song is about a guy whose father left him forever when the boy was very young.  His mother tried to raise him but had to give him up to his aunt because the mother worked full time.  He loved his mother and saw her regularly, but when he was about sixteen his mother was killed in an auto accident.  The boy went on to become a songwriter, and he composed this song.

It's a true story.

How about a little "Who did it better?"

I never really got into Jimi Hendrix until I realised I was listening at the incorrect volume.

Jimi: https://youtu.be/69Rxo70EGwc

SRV: https://youtu.be/nuI5YPaZXIQ

Personally, Stevie Ray is better even though Jimi is the original.

There, I said it.

Joe is a very different guitarist today than he was on Funk 49.  Age and years of drugs does that to you.  Still...I love the guitar duo at the end of Hotel California...one of the best I've heard.  Joe is off drugs and booze now.  Good for him!  By the way, he is Ringo's brother in law.

Absolutely Shawn, There is a God and his Name is Jimi, and thy volume shall be 11 and no lower for the experience to be closer to nirvana.
Again, agreed, SRV is a wonderful example of a disciple of the method taking it to greater heights.
Frank
ps Joe Walsh, “The Smoker you are the Player you get” discovered his music through this album and it has only gotten better.

Speaking of Joe Walsh,,,,,live as usual:

IMO, Don Felder was the unsung hero guitarist in this amazing group.

Viva Las Vegas

Elivs: https://youtu.be/9MO1KyNUOIs

ZZ-Top: https://youtu.be/gOoKzw3JSCM

My father was an Elvis man. No thank you, I've heard it all, don't need to hear it anymore.

Dusty Hill does great job of the vocals, even if it is the "drum machine and synthesizer" era ZZ-Top, it's still better than Elvis.
