Aaaah, Frank Zappa, a definite musical occurrence.  I saw him I can’t remember how many times, some of those times were pretty legitimately hard to recall. I was one of many who funded the latest documentary on him and have a long appreciation of his music. Not for everyone I agree but I like it.  Positive from me on the Talking Heads another tremendous band.
Was in Vancouver overnight but my wife called me up as we are on alert so I doubled back home this morning. 7 hours on the road but back at least.

This has to be one of the top rock songs ever recorded.  In a time when songs were 3 minutes long, with two verses, a bridge and a final verse...this one broke all the rules.

Yep!  This one too.  This one is a high energy song, one of the traits that attracted young people to rock and roll in the first place.

Slowing things down a bit.  Here's an oldie but a goodie.  We danced to this in high school back in the '60's.  Love them horns!

In the 1960's and '70's there was a disc jockey by the name of Wolfman Jack.  He was listened to across the entire US from a high powered station in Mexico.  He was so well known that he was included in American Grafitti as a disc jockey.  The Guess Who wrote a tribute to Wolfman Jack and this is my song of the day.

Not many bands have a PhD physicist as a lead guitarist, and who made his own guitar at the age of 16.  Brian May has played for Queen since their inception and continues to play with Adam Lambert as their lead singer. He ranks with the best lead guitarists for raw energy and innovation.  Listen to him in this early Queen song.

Ron Hynes was a fine singer/songwriter from Newfoundland...one that didn't sing traditional songs like I's the By or Jack was every inch a sailor.  Unfortunately he had some seriously bad habits with respect to non prescription drugs that, along with throat cancer eventually caused his death.  But he still managed to produce some wonderful work, including this song about a young man on a farm, wanting to go to sea like his father did despite his mother's pleading to stay home.

A classic piece of Canadiana there Bill. From a guy like me who spent his entire working life on boats it sure sounds like a cautionary tale that might best be heeded!  Wink Grin

The last couple days I've fallen down a youtube rabbit-hole of Leo Kottke guitar stuff. I've been lucky enough to see Leo half a dozen times live. A funny guy and a terrific musician. Like all of us, he is getting to be an old fart now. Here he is in his prime.

Back in the '70's I was big into singers like Leo.  Or John Prine, Tom Rush, Bruce Coburn and a couple of others.  Later on I moved into Southern Rock...Charlie Daniels, Elvin Bishop, Marshall Tucker etc.

Here is a nice Elvin Bishop song, sung by Mickey Thomas.
