When I was very young, maybe 4 or 5, this song was a hit forr Tennessee Ernie Ford.  Who would have thought it would be a rock song sung by Jeff Beck and ZZ Top??

The Doors were one of the greatest blues bands of the late 60's and early '70's.  They consisted of keyboards, lead guitar and drums.  And Jim Morrison sang.  Notice there was no bass guitar.  Morrison was a marvellous blues singer but he was at best unstable, prone to abusing himself with anything that came along.  Eventually he died of a drug overdose at age 27, which by coincidence was the same age that Janis Joplin and Jimmi Hendrix died.  After Morrison died it was obvious the band couldn't continue.  Jim was irreplaceable.

Everyone remembers Light my Fire, a 1967 song that made the Doors a household name but I like this later song better.  I think it shows Jim's voice to its best effect.

Speaking of Jim Morrison...

Good Canadian kids and they put on an incredible live show. Saw them at The Commodore:

Yeah, that guy sounds a little like Jim, and the band includes drums, keyboards and guitar.

I may have posted Amazing Rhythm Aces before but I can't really remember.  In any case they were a great country rock group from the '70's and early '80's.  In this song they do a great interpretation of Van Morrison's Wild Night.

This is another good '70's band.  It's unusual because they are all white but singing a Motown style.  And the lead singer is also the drummer.  The only other  drummers I've seen do that are Levon Helm and Don Henley.

I'll agree about Phil but Ringo wasn't a lead singer.

This was a high energy band from the 60's.  The song is a great one if you're a runner reaching the final mile of a marathon where you need all the energy you can muster.

You mean Thomas The Tank Engine? Grin

His later stuff (after the beatles) was done in studio with multi tracks.  Drum on one track, sing on another.  Even later he was (and is) well known for his all starr bands, with many many other fine musicians including drummers.  Those bands were mostly live touring ones where each musician sang his/her own hits and the rest of the band played along.

Neal Peart passed away a few months ago...unexpectedly.  He was a fine drummer in a fine band.  Here they are....
