Sunny today, so fired up the black Beast and rode over to Falkland and met Henry for lunch. 3 rd time out on the bike this season, and a total of 369 kms by the time I got back home. Plus 9 C when I left.  I had the heated gear 'on' but not really cranked up very far.  Still ice on Monte Lake, but it must be pretty thin now since all the ice fishermen and their huts were absent, while the last time I was by there a couple weeks back there were about 20 idiots out there freezing their asses off.  Much easier to stop into Safeway to get a fish dinner.
  Next project with the ST-1100 is to try to fit a tank bag.  It's a plastic cover so my magnetic bags won't work, but I have several older bags with straps, so just "maybe"!
   Spent hours yesterday getting the old GS-Suzi back together and began polishing the aluminum.  My wonderful clear coat job from last year didn't last.  I still haven't found a real durable clear coat.

Good to see you getting out Ron. It was 13 and sunny here in Chase today, more and more bikes getting out there for sure. Good report on Monte Lake, in the world of fly-fishers people are getting anxious for ice-off. It is a good day when your fly goes 'splash' instead of 'thunk'! Grin

Kilo, not sure if this link will work, as it's to a post on another forum from a guy who's rebuilding a Z1.  He clear coated with some stuff that appears to work.  Go to P4 of the post on "Finally Restoring My '72 Z1".  If the link doesn't work then I can maybe transfer the picture and description over.

Tonight I took off the head that I had put back on over the weekend.  I had gotten the head bolts all nicely torqued and was doing the two little side bolts on the engine but the threads were stripped in both of them so they wouldn't torque up at all.  Once I got the head back off I realized that the side bolts were M6 x 45, the same as the valve cover bolts.  And I had two spare M6 x 65's in my parts bin that were from the smog device that originally went on the Mk II engine.  So I checked the length of the holes in the engine and they were just barely long enough for the longer bolts.  Back went the head and I tightened everything up again.  Tomorrow I'll try to set the timing before finishing off the cam chain installation.

Well I didn't do anything except supply the beer while my neighbour Bryan made this awesome little lift/stand for me....glad I didn't have to buy on as they ain't cheap.

I showed him a youtube video of one and he made it.... Smiley Works like a charm!

Set the camshafts on the newly installed head.  #1 & $ cylinders at TDC...Exhaust cam goes in first...on a mark.  Then the intake cam goes in on a mark and 28 cam pins back from the exhaust mark.  Good thing I learned to count!    Tomorrow I'll bolt the bearing caps down and the guide roller.

Well in the last few days on the XV920
Replaced the Bars with new OEM bar.
made a chicken wire Stone guard for my head light . . . till I can get a new one . .
. . hard to find an 8 inch
 I have Flushed out the sealed drive chain area with 10-30 oil . . .
. . . and pumped in 3 tubes ov lithium grease . . .

Changed out the Cam Bearings/bushings with roller bearings.
And today is Fork seal day.
Will likely put the gadders on as well.

It would be nice to be done soon and go for a ride.
been riding most every day for 3-4 weeks.

yea that was cool . . but mine on the one side was gushing out oil . . ha . . what a mess.
one done . . they have never been replaced the spring clip on that side was rusted in two pieces.
the othere I will be able to use but it is so bad will replace it later.

Nothing like almost finishing a bike and having to take it apart again because the original ignition quit Angry ran before it came apart and all electrical checked out a month ago, finished final assembly and checked electrical one last time and no spark...figures
a set of oem coils/wires and a new H1 combination CDI box from Jim at Lakeland Services and we're back in business  Grin
All back together and almost time for this Kawi to go back home...
