That appears to be the Turbo 650 from what little I can see of it.  Rarest of the turbo bikes but VERY good as it was late to the party.  The latest issue of Canadian Biker had several pages devoted to the Turbo bikes.  Seems Harry from Vernon also has one.  Good luck with it.  Once you're all sorted you'll have a gem.

The bike runs great and everything works I'm just trying to clean up the previous owners spraycan "restoration"   Roll Eyes
Replaced the usual parts like tires,grips,mirrors, polish the cases and ceramic coat the exhaust pipes,collector and turbo pipes etc...not restoring this one, just cleaning it up to ride...have to bring it up to Barrys turbo standards if I want to park it in his driveway  Wink

Dealt with the starter cut-off switch problem (Concours) that cropped up as Hawk, Jeff, Joe, and I tried to ride to VIV two weeks ago.   Straightened the tang on the sidestand, ordered and received a new switch (two days to get one through VMS).  While the mufflers were off, gave them a bit of a cleanup and polish, and took solvent to the suspension links and adjacent bits via stiff brush, to remove the accumulated road grime, mostly......now I can see the grease nipples.   Replaced the original rusty fasteners with SS wherever necessary (hex head, of course.......horrors, non-OEM).   

Amazing how much road grunge gets into nooks and crannies on a modern bike......

Today I put my newly returned carbs on the B4.  It runs!

Last spring I was having problems getting ignition in #1 cylinder.  I tried everything I knew to source the problem.  Checked compression, changed plugs, changed plug wires, changed coils, cleaned the carbs at least 4 or 5 times.  Still no firing!  finally I decided to send the carbs to wiredgeorge in Texas.  I didn't realize at the time how much of a backlog he carries.  It took him 4 months to finally get to them, but he basically rebuilt them and replaced the #1 body.  I got them back this morning and put them on.  The bike fired up right away!  I waited a few minutes for the pipes to heat up and tried the spray test.  All pipes vaporized water!  Then I pulled the plug wire on #1 and watched the bike revs drop down.  Replaced the wire and they went back up.  I know for sure that it's firing!

After 4 months I need to spend some time cleaning the bike up before taking it over for registration.  Should have it on the road next week!

New battery in the 71 750 Norton Commando yesterday morning and then a scoot when the sun came out. So nice to have a Norton!

Royal Enfield crapped out on me last week so tore down the top end yesterday and found the exhaust valve is receding into the head, unleaded problem I guess, inlet looks fine. Ordered new piston, rings, valves, guides and seats along with the oversize cam pinion kit for a planned rebuild this winter that will freshen it up for next season. In the meantime I lapped the old valve, plan to put it back together this morning and will ride it as is for the remainder of the season. Time to ride not to wrench.

Luckily the Z1 is in top running condition! Cheesy

I wonder if anyone in the lower mainland is riding today?  I was out to the gym around 8 AM and I got soaked just walking from my door to my car.  Watch out for puddles if you're riding today.

So the story starts a couple three years ago when I bought an inexpensive 1973 Yamaha RD250.  It was a non running bike that had been abandoned and left to die a slow death.  My hope was.....and still is.......to eventually bring this unwanted motorcycle back to life.  It has been lingering in the garage doing nothing since the day it followed me home.  The only work performed by me confirmed what I feared ....the motor was seized.
Fast forward to sometime early 2015 and I had the grand idea that maybe I should do something with that poor unsuspecting smoker. Smiley
I can actually thank (blame?) Boris for bullying and cajoling me into this adventure. Evil

The decision was made to "piece meal" the project in order to manage it along the way.  The last thing I wanted was to have a totally disassembled motorcycle and complete chaos in the rebuild.  I planned to pull and qualify the motor as a possible rebuild, first.  Once the motor component was completed and resolved, I would look at the front end.  Again, the same logic would be applied; rebuild the front wheel, then the forks, then the triples etc.
Once that was completed, I would move on to another section of the bike.

I have now completed the motor, most of the front end, and starting to dismantle the rear end.
As I started digging into the Yamana, it became quite apparent this was going to be a BIG project.  Every single nut and bolt that I have touched on this bike has been previously gouged, rounded, beaten or was left to rust towards a slow but sure demise.  No need for me to attempt a description of the actual parts that have been extracted from this corpse of a motorcycle.  Suffice it to say, the po's had a similar fate in store for those as well.
There is nothing coming off this bike that doesn't need some sort of attention......nothing.
 
I will try and post comments and pics as I move forward on this project.  At this point in time I am well into the beast, and am also quite late in posting to the forum.  
Either way, I will carry on until completion......or defeat.

Engine exploratory surgery revealed the following......

The motor was totally seized.  Right piston and barrel were welded solid to each other.  Crankshaft on the same side was completely rusted.  
Water entered from the top of the right side carburetor and made its way into the motor.  Over many years of water saturation the end result looked like this......
