Took the old girls girder forks apart to have a good look for wear, cracks, improper assembly and any other scary stuff that might ruin a good ride this year.

It's a 1939 Scout which  belongs to a fellow Indian lover who wants to turn it into a reliable rider. I'm doing a piston, ring and valve job on it as well as replacing the rear cylinder. Some of the repairs that have been done to these old bikes over the years is ingenious and and some is just plain awful.  
ie. The mounting flange of the cast steel rear cylinder broke where it fastens to the crankcase so someone welded it back on.  The heat put a  .010 bump in the cylinder wall which of course screwed up the piston skirt.
When I took the girder forks apart on my bike last night I discovered that one of the four link pivot bushings was missing  and the pinch bolt which clamps the lower tree to the steering stem was never installed. It was full of dirt and grime so it must have been that way for years.   Huh?
I think she just might corner a little better this yer.

   ...began to modify the stock seat t so I could use a smaller solo saddle with the pogo for this season.

   ...oh, and took a felt marker to my tank paint job to check out another "look".

   ...even better than drawing on photo copied pictures like I usually do..
