Finally got it running properly after it was only running on just 2 and 3. I went through the ignition system, replacing a pulser generator, right through the carbs, new o rings in the carbs, set the valve clearances, cleaned all connections and now it runs better.

  Much activity here, and good to see, that lovely machines are being restored and kept in good running order.
   My humble activity in the shop so far this horrid weather season:
 Norton: oil and filter, lubricate swingarm.
 Laverda: new sprockets and o ring chain ((30,000 kms). Rebuild clutch slave cylinder. Oil-filter mesh clean.
 BMW R100gs: oil and filter, new left side heated grip. Currently rebuilding front brake caliper (29 years). New front brake pads. Gearbox and rear hub  fluid change. “Fortify “ aftermarket charging system ground system which failed last summer.
  R1200: oil and filter. New front tire.
  RC: radiator fluid change.
  CT70: oil.
  Xr650: still sitting on bike lift to put oxford heated grips on it.

  Update on the R100GS Brembo front brake. It was showing clear signs of being seized. Upon disassembly, I found no evidence of dirt, rust, or anything that would cause such a thing. In fact, I found a quality of manufacture which pretty well precludes rust or component breakdown.   The piston is phenolic, a hard solid form of plastic, impervious to breakdown. As well, the caliper body is full anodized, no breakdown at all. As I put it back together ( only issue one rusted bolt which holds the 1/2’s together) I was thinking there must be an issues with the master cylinder on the handlebar. It was only after I studied the aftermarket EVC organic pads I found the issue. The material was put too high on the steel
Plate, and eventually as they wore in, the brake material began touching each side from above the brake rotor. Found it!!   So, new pads have been ordered, and the pads will be modified beforehand if the material is above the rotor diameter.

I've been busy shovelling for the last few days so not much done on the engine until today.  I put the cylinders back on using the Kawasaki tool.  Photos below show the tool...it comes in two pieces with arc like sections to go over and compress the rings.  There is a taper on the top of each arc that is the reverse of the taper on the bottom of the cylinders, so it fits inside the cylinders and allows the cylinders to drop down over the rings very easily.  It takes about 10 minutes to set up and 30 seconds to install.  Very slick!

 My bikes are sitting in the snow .. again. A couple have covers.
 I finally got a slightly bigger shop space with power. So Iam starting to move my stuff over to the new unit, 600 feet away.
So nice to have lights and a bit of heat.,  the bad parts us the weather, its not helping at all..
 At least things are looking up a bit.,  a place to work on the bikes.. the driveway  just does not cut it.,

Finished the head and installed it on the bike.  Then installed the cams.  Still need to set the valve clearance....probably tomorrow.

I thought I had a new valve cover gasket but when I took it out I realized it's for a Mk 11 head.  So I will install the old one and order one to replace it when I recheck everything this spring.

Finally got around to fixing the oil leak on my Katana today... it had only been sitting on my workbench waiting for me to get to it since September.  Roll Eyes

Generator cover is dry as a bone now, only needed to adjust the gasket so part of it wasn't folded inside of the housing. Four months for that?!? It took me less than 1/2 an hour to fix! Man I suck...

All the valves are set but unfortunately I needed a shim that I didn't have so I had to order some.  It's not bad...0.17 mm...the max is normally 0.10.  I won't run it til I get the correct clearance but I put the cover on just to keep things clean.

Photo below shows a completed right side.  I sanded and buffed the marks out of the clutch cover and painted the ignition cover black part.  Currently working on the sprocket cover and planning to take the front tire off to bring into River City when we next go to the big smoke.  I have a new Dunlop F11 to be installed.  It's as close as one can get nowadays to the original Dunlop F6.

Still waiting for a shim for the Z1, but otherwise it's ready to go so I put it back in storage and began some finishing touches on the KLR.  I put a new plug into it and am now putting covers and things back together.  Once this is done I have to put Sweetum's KZ550 up to check carb floats and replace bowl gaskets.

I picked up an offshore swinger that is for an SR500 and adapted it to the tracker XS. The quality is pretty nice. Because I am using longer than stock shocks I have to build an Idler and possibly a tensioner for the chain. The center of front sprocker to swingarm pivot is almost 6 inches !!
