Title: 1978 Moto Guzzi 850 T3
Post by: Steve G. on April 11, 2023, 08:09:44 PM
I'm not totally well read on these models, as to the tank on this machine, whether the fuel tank is correct, etc, for collector plate possibilities. Also the headlight attachment.

I saw this a couple weeks ago. This bike was for sale at similar moneys a couple years back. The tank is a modified original 6 gal. (knee reliefs), the headlight perches are aftermarket (as are the signals), and the exhaust collectors aren't original style (but BUBs are period units). The rear grab bar should be chrome and have no attached luggage rack. The handlebars are lower stance. I see an 'outsider' type oil filter under there - bonus. Other than that it looks pretty much original, and it already sports a collector plate. It likely still has the original chrome cylinder bores but the oil filter makes this less an issue. Looks like a solidly built rider, and the price is coming good for a rare-ish model (in this part of the world). And it's already registered in Canada....hmmmm ::).

Ha, just found this this morning, very similar but more original.....

Strange, the above two bikes (and all of my lot) have pretty much the same mileage....~45k miles (72k kms). I guess that's about as long as they last until their first resto.

Quite likely that Moto Guzzis need a rebuild after 40K miles.

Dunno what happened to the rest of my post.  Someone playing games maybe with the post modify option.

Ya I was pushing Moto Guzzi buttons.  But I went on to posit, that perhaps a lot of bikes only see maybe 5K miles per year.  Then after 8 or 9 years when they need some extensive maintenance, they end up parked behind a shed and forgotten.
