Fixed my fog lights and heated grips.  I like both on my early morning commutes.  Yup, still going.

Went to Langley U-blast.  Soda blasted Z1 carbs and spare valve cover.  Sand blasted Z1 tank that I will keep for spare or sell at some later date.  Offers?
Polished Z1 carb tops & bowls.

Installed a set of CX500C pegs on my CX500D

They put your foot about 1" lower and 1" further back, much more comfortable.

Ross,

I am interested how the carbs turned out today?  Can you put some pictures up or bring them to show and tell tomorrow with you.

Thanks John

I took a couple of pics, they didn't turn out that well.  I'll bring the stuff I blasted.

After I got home about 1:30 this afternoon, I cleaned the rest of the carb parts, then polished the carb caps and bowls.  Then I reconstructed the carb rack.  It was quite a challenge, as I had dismantled it last winter.  The linkage on the 73 Z1's is quite intricate even compared to later Z1's, lots of tiny ball joints.

But all is well, and the carbs are almost ready to go.  I still need to bench sync them.  But more importantly, I need to set the float levels.  In order to do that I need a special bowl drain adapter with a clear tube.  I don't have one.  Anybody out there have one I can borrow, or come on over and we'll do it together.

See you at coffee tomorrow.

Cheers,
Ross

...this place to write stuff  ...I don't know what to call it cause I'm not computer smart   ..."thread" ?..   seems like a great place to release some "pent up rage"  so to speak,  so thank you jetta90 for the opportunity and the invitation..

...with this particular "mule", that will be my last "Iron Horse", what I've been attached to for better than a decade, I have found that right from it's introduction into my life the "molding" that has occurred with each of us, for each other, has been virtually like a snap shot of global warming through one of them "time lapsed" film deals..
Every year I ride through my plated time doing a few slight "mods" and then the "steed" is parked somewhere where it will be observed, photographed, and massaged repeatedly until the ritual "plating"    ...which always occurs on a 14th, cuz then I get the "13" on my plate     ....kinda odd maybe, but it has been that way since we met..    ...the "photograph's" become prints that I draw idea's on until they look like chalk art, or changes have taken place, and then they are replaced or updated. I look at them before I go to sleep, as they are beside the bed with writing implements for taking notes or drawing inspiration if I wake during the night.

...this year My "Tired Iron" hibernates just beyond the patio doors outside my den, approximately 8 feet from the couch in there that unfolds into a sleeping spot ,if need be, and gazes at me longingly, sometimes taunting, other times proudly reassuring our relationship and our bond to me, silently and boldly.

     ......god I Love that motorcycle...

....I "touch" it regularly, be it taking covers off to inspect, or a few gentle roll over kicks to move some 50 weight around, changing an air cleaner, or even moving the front wheel to the other side so I can admire it from a new angle for a bit..

....does the "fung shway" balance ?      ....hhhhhmmmmmmmm...

    ..maybe I'm "unbalanced" myself..

....however, to me..   ...it is the most real, moving, church like relationship that I have ever had in my life.   ....it's like a good Doobie Brothers tune sung by Micheal Mcdonald, or Ave Maria sung by Andreas Bocelli ..     ....with the volume real LOUD !!

...I wish you all the very best that the festive season can offer.

    Thanks.

That's not retarded, you just love your bike nothing wrong with that..
And it gets me thinking time to get my 73 back together..had that bike since 76..spring of that year..

The last year's I was riding that old 74, I would see people from back in the day, and say..remember my green bike from way back, and they would say yeah.. Then I would say we'll that is the same tank, and the same paint.... Man a lot of years went by...

I agree with 754,I don't think your retarded at all.I think you have everything in good balance. But,I do see a literary genius that's not being used to it's full potential. You have a way of writing that captivates. If you ever decide to write a book, let me know and I'd be the first to buy it.Best of the season to you to Gerry.

Paul, I am obliged that you may identify with my rant now and then Brother.
I would write if I knew how.
My typing here is a weird kind of therapy thing...

...and Kaw74, I have "mentally challenged" family members.
   There is a difference.

Back to bikes.  I had to fix my rear brake light switch.  Kept sticking on.  Not too safe last night riding home in a cold storm at midnight with the light on.  Nobody knew if I was stopping. Shocked

Glued on the bar grips on the 73 Z1.  Other than installing the new tank and body panels when they arrive, I'm done with the chassis. Next is setting the float levels. After Christmas  I do the engine.  Should be complete by February.
